Quite the news round today, as the Doctor Who Doom’s Day multimedia event confirms its story list & release schedule. As well as securely reasserting some older details about stories. They’ve also shed light on the incoming Doctor Who Magazine tie-in. However, until now, it had been the most mysterious of the bunch. And well, what’s more, needed for a multimedia event over several months than a little guide. So, settle in as we take you through the hours of Doom’s Day – releasing from June to September 2023. Sooz Kempner stars as “Doom” in the upcoming multi-platform adventure.

June – Comic Kickoff for Doctor Who Doom’s Day
The Doom’s Day story will kick off soon. For example, June’s two releases take us a sixth of the way through the day of bounty hunter Doom.
- TITLE TO BE REVEALED – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 1 – will be released as a video via the Doctor Who digital social channels on June 5th.
- Target Selected, written by Jacqueline Rayner – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 2 – will be released as a comic strip via the Doctor Who Magazine‘s Issue 592 on June 22nd.
- The Plastic Population, written by Jacqueline Rayner – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 3 – will be released as a comic strip via the Doctor Who Magazine‘s Issue 592 on June 22nd.
- High Noon in Hollywood, written by Jacqueline Rayner – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 4 – will be released as a comic strip via the Doctor Who Magazine‘s Issue 592 on June 22nd.
- The Horn of a Dilemma, written by Jacqueline Rayner – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 5 – will be released as a comic strip via the Doctor Who Magazine‘s Issue 592 on June 22nd.
The Doom’s Day Tales of Doctor Who Magazine
With Rayner taking on the writing duties and Russ Leach as the artist – it’s a return to the familiar DWM comic duo we’ve been used to in recent years. Bar Liberation of the Daleks returns to two older favourite creatives. Target Selected takes place in a “maximum security prison” – a later synopsis reveals Stormcage, where River is held. As the title suggests, the Plastic Population puts Doom and one of the Doctors up against the Autons. And it’s no surprise that Doom’s trip to “an abandoned film studio” will be in a story called High Noon in Hollywood. It all rounds off with a unicorn quest.

July – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: From Comics to Games…
Another familiar creative pairing takes up July with Jody Houser and artist Roberta Ingranata taking the reins for their latest Doctor Who Titan adventure since the intriguing Doctor Who: Origins! Which is then followed by a video-game trip courtesy of East Side Games.
- A Doctor in the House? Part One, written by Jody Houser – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hours 6 & 7 – will be released as a comic from Titan Comics on July 5th.
- A Doctor in the House? Part Two, written by Jody Houser – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hours 8 & 9 – will be released as a comic from Titan Comics on July 25th.
- AI am the Doctor, written by Mario A. Mentasti – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 10 – will be released as part of the game Doctor Who: Lost in Time sometime after July 25th and before August 10th.
A Doctor in the House? kicks off by putting Doom into the hands of Missy. Intriguingly, both comic issues seem to have a story for each hour. Part One of the comic has been revealed to have an Hour 6 story in which Doom “arrives back at Stormcage” and gets interrupted. (Perhaps a Doctor might show up. We do know they like to break River out now and then.) Part Two has an Hour 9 story involving a “tea party for three” on a dead planet. The Hour 7 & 8 stories cover a ball and a space-age fan convention.

Early August – Hours 11 to 15 of Doctor Who Doom’s Day
One of the stories we’ve known about for the longest, and with a fair number of details for some time… Extraction Point is sure to be an interesting adventure. As previously revealed, Doom will face down a Kraal, Satellite Five, a living asteroid and come up against the Second and Ninth Doctors. Today’s cover reveal, though, has also revealed that the Slitheen will be involved!
Meanwhile, in mid-August, fans must return to the game world for another Lost in Time tale. This one is handled by the game’s additional writer Garner Haines. After two years of work on the game, we’re sure he’s excited to be involved in this adventure. The story of which features a brand-new character: Martin Tyr. And it’s Doom’s job to protect him!
- Extraction Point, written by M.G. Harris – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hours 11, 12, 13 & 14 – will be released by Penguin Random House as a novel on August 10th.
- Wrong Place at the Right Time*, written by Garner Haines – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 15 – will be released as part of the game Doctor Who: Lost in Time sometime after August 10th and before August 24th. (*this was originally mis-listed on the website as Wrong Place at the Wrong Time)

Late August – BBC Audio’s Doctor Who Doom’s Day Anthology
August’s releases will then close out with the release we’ve known about since last year. For example, the Four From Doom’s Day box-set. Therefore, writer Darren Jones takes fans through four new tales. Narrated by Sooz Kempner, Silas Carson & Jaye Griffiths, the four tales feature exciting returns!
Fan favourite returns: Ian, Barbara, Ice Warriors and more…
Ice Warriors return in The Martian Dilemma, as Doom plunges into ancient Martian history. An Odd Halloween takes Doom into Halloween night 1999 in San Francisco and presumably the sights of Brian the Ood. However, outside the box set, Doom will also cross paths with two of the earliest companions – Ian and Barbara. Might the First Doctor be close behind them? We certainly know a Doctor will be involved from the vinyl cover-wrap sticker…
- The Steel Cascade, written by Darren Jones – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 16 – will be released as part of the Four From Doom’s Day Audio CD Anthology from BBC Audio on August 24th. (A 2 LP limited vinyl release will also be released on an unspecified date.)
- The Martian Dilemma, written by Darren Jones – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 17 – will be released as part of the Four From Doom’s Day Audio CD Anthology from BBC Audio on August 24th. (A 2 LP limited vinyl release will also be released on an unspecified date.)
- An Ood Halloween, written by Darren Jones – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 18 – will be released as part of the Four From Doom’s Day Audio CD Anthology from BBC Audio on August 24th. 2 LP limited vinyl release will also be released on an unspecified date.)
- Dark Space, written by Darren Jones – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 19 – will be released as part of the Four From Doom’s Day Audio CD Anthology from BBC Audio on August 24th.
September – Here Comes The End of Doom’s Day…
Though casting details beyond Kempner have yet to be given, Big Finish has dropped the synopsises for their boxset. The first story by Rayner takes us to Venus in the future amidst a political plot. Story two takes us to 2007, where Doom trails “an unsuspecting human” on a romantic dinner. (Who do we know that lived in 2007 and knew the Doctor? Martha?) The penultimate story lands Doom in perhaps the most interesting situation: how does one assassinate a Silent? Oh, that’s a genius concept.

The Big Finish Doom’s Day Stories
- Dawn of Everlasting Peace, written by Jacqueline Rayner – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 20 – will be released as part of the Big Finish Doom’s Day Audio Drama box-set in September.
- A Date With Destiny, written by Robert Valentine – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 21 – will be released as part of the Big Finish Doom’s Day Audio Drama box-set in September.
- The Howling Wolves of Xan-Phear, written by Simon Clark – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 22 – will be released as part of the Big Finish Doom’s Day Audio Drama box-set in September.
- The Crowd, written by Lizzie Hopley – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 23 – will be released as part of the Big Finish Doom’s Day Audio Drama box-set in September.
- TITLE TO BE REVEALED – Doctor Who Doom’s Day: Hour 24 – will mark the conclusion of the story via a release on the official Doctor Who social channels in September.
With all four stories written by Big Finish hands that have had past runs with Doctor Who, the boxset’s final story rounds out in The Crowd. The mysterious Crowd is Doom’s target, and she finds “an unfamiliar face, with a familiar face”. Another Doctor, we presume… And then, at last, the Doom’s Day story ends with a final secretive social channels release. Will Doom survive the day? Time will tell…
The Doctors of Doctor Who: Doom’s Day
Things are being kept rather secretive regarding Doctor appearances for now. However, given that Doom is on a quest for a specific Doctor, she is, of course, going to bump into a few. Here’s what little we know so far:
- Second Doctor – Extraction Point (Hours 11 to 14)
- Ninth Doctor – Extraction Point (Hours 11 to 14)
- Unknown Doctor – The Plastic Population (Hour 3)
- Unknown Doctor & K-9 – AI am the Doctor (Hour 10)
- Unknown Doctor – within the Four From Doom’s Day anthology (Hours 16 to 19)
But we strongly suspect that there will be plenty other Doctors sneaking into the picture somewhere. We’re personally keeping our fingers crossed for a Fugitive Doctor cameo here! At any rate, Doctor Who Doom’s Day is sure to be quite the thing to keep fans busy from June to September. And get us closer to that 60th Anniversary.
Doctor Who will air in November 2023 with three special episodes as the show’s 60th Anniversary headliner event. David Tennant returns as the 14th Doctor alongside Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will air over the festive period, while his series 14 will debut in 2024 with Millie Gibson. Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons of Doctor Who outside of the UK and Ireland.
