Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic Projects in 2023

The new year has only just begun. Already we have a large collection of Star Wars: The High Republic stories coming in 2023. Today we look at the Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic projects, from comics to novels, reference books, audiobooks and even animation. We’re running down all the currently announced projects coming to the Star Wars: The High Republic series over the next few months. As always, dates are subject to change, but as of publication, all dates are correct.

The Battle of Jedha (January 3rd)

George Mann (Quest for the Hidden City) starts The High Republic in 2023 with the audio story ‘The Battle of Jedha’. It is out now and available to listen to on Audible or wherever you get your audiobooks! Star Wars fans will remember Jedha from 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This adventure will explore the moon three hundred years before the film’s events. The script for this audio adventure will also be released in book form on February 14th 2023.

The Blade (Issue #2, January 25th)

Official art of Barash Silvain and Porter ‘The Blade of Bardotta’ Engle. (via Marvel Comics.)

The first issue of this Charles Soule (Light of the Jedi, Eye of the Storm) comic miniseries is out now. Expect three more issues to come later in 2023. This series delves into the life of Porter Engle. He was a standout character from Phase One’s Light of the Jedi (also by Soule). This story sees him as a much younger Jedi Knight. Porter will also be joined by his sister, Barash Silvain. Could she be linked to the Barash Vow?

The High Republic Adventures (Issue #3, February 15th)

The adventures of Sav Malagán and Maz Kanata continue! Daniel José Older’s (Midnight Horizon) High Republic Adventures series of comics will run for eight total issues. The first two issues are available right now from Dark Horse Comics. Another fan-favourite side character from the films appears in this series. Obi-Wan’s old Besalisk buddy Dexter Jettster joins Maz’s pirate crew! It’s easily one of the most anticipated Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic projects.

The Nameless Terror (Issue #1, February 22nd)

Cover of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – The Nameless Terror. (via Dark Horse Comics.)

George Mann returns for his fourth original High Republic story. Star Wars – The High Republic Adventures: The Nameless Terror. A four-issue comic miniseries from Dark Horse Comics is coming soon. This comic series tells the tale of a Jedi mission to the planet of Dalna (as seen in Path of Deceit). The team comes under attack by unknown enemies. In their retreat, the Jedi Knights discover something even more terrifying!

Chronicles of the Jedi (February 28th)

Cover of Star Wars: The High Republic – Chronicles of the Jedi: An Illustrated Guide to the Galaxy’s Golden Age. (via Titan Books.)

A brand new reference book chronicling (see what we did there) the adventures of the Jedi during the High Republic era. The illustrated book by Cole Horton will take an in-depth look at the golden age of the Jedi. This in-universe guide will be a great entry point for newer fans of the series while also providing long-time fans with new imagery and lore!

Quest of the Jedi (March 1st)

Claudia Gray’s (Into the Dark, The Fallen Star) first entry in The High Republic’s second phase! It is also her first Star Wars comic book. It’s one of my most anticipated Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic comics! Quest of the Jedi is a One-Shot comic, so there will be only one issue, but it is sure to be unmissable. In this story, a pair of Jedi arrive in the mysterious world of Angord, seeking artefacts of the Force. However, they quickly find much more than they were bargaining for!

Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic (Issue #5, March 8th)

Cover of Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic #1 2022. (via Marvel Comics.)

Cavan Scott’s (The Rising Storm, Tempest Runner) acclaimed mainline comic series continues! The first four issues are available now, with at least six more coming over the new year. In this series, Jedi Vildar Mac travels to the Holy City of Jedha. Just as the moon’s fragile peace begins to fracture, a nameless terror emerges.

Star Wars: The High Republic – Cataclysm (April 4th)

The second Del Rey novel of Phase II and a continuation of Convergence. The High Republic: Cataclysm by Lydia Kang will bring back Axel Greylark (pictured on the cover), and more of the amazing characters from the first book. Hopefully we will explore even more of both Eiram and E’ronoh, as well as the affects of the “forever war” in this book!

Written by Tessa Graton (Path of Deceit), Quest for Planet X is the middle-grade novel for Phase Two’s second wave of books. Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani and hyperspace prospector Dass Leffbruk return alongside newcomer Sky Graf. Eagle-eyed fans will recognise the backdrop on the book’s cover as the world of Batuu, also known as Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge. Path of Vengeance (May 2nd)

The follow-up to last year’s Path of Deceit, this young adult novel, is written by Cavan Scott. This book will carry on the story of Marda Ro and the mysterious cult known as the Path of the Open Hand. Could we see the origins of the Nihil, the villains of The High Republic’s first phase of storytelling? I guess we will find out on May 2nd! The High Republic’s original manga returns in 2023! This prequel story from writers Daniel José Older and Tomio Ogata tells the story of the Wookiee Jedi Arkoff. He was first introduced in 2021’s The Edge of Balance Volume One by Justina Ireland and Shima Shinya. Here’s hoping we see the return of the adorable yet vicious Banchiians from Volume One in this manga!

The High Republic Young Adult Anthology (September 5th)

Rounding up some of the Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic projects is this gem. This anthology book will collect all-new tales from major authors currently a part of The High Republic initiative. This anthology collection features several original short stories connecting to all three phases of the High Republic era. These stories are said to bridge the three phases and resolve some mysteries while revealing new hints and clues about what’s to come in the future!

Yoda and the Younglings (October 2023)

Cover of Star Wars: The High Republic – Yoda and the Younglings. (via Disney Lucasfilm Press.)

Charles Soule teams up with his daughter Rosemary Soule for this upcoming children’s book. This story features everyone’s favourite little green Jedi, Yoda, and the Wookiee Padawan Burryaga Agaburry! We don’t know much about this story, but we know it will be absolutely adorable. It should be a nice change of pace after some pretty dark storytelling in this phase!

Phase III – Trials of the Jedi (November 2023)

The final phase of High Republic storytelling kicks off at the tail end of this new year. Trials of the Jedi will surely include a whole new collection of books, comics and more! It’s presumed that all the existing authors will return. There is even the possibility more writers will join for the final phase. Details remain under wraps for now, but let’s hope we see our favourite characters from the past two phases show up again here! This is one of the major highlights of the Upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic projects, especially as we ask where the initiate will go following Phase 3.

    Young Jedi Adventures (TBD 2023)

The High Republic makes the jump to animation with Young Jedi Adventures. A series targeted towards younger viewers, coming soon on an unannounced date later this year. The show will introduce a whole new cast of characters, as well as cameos from fan-favourite characters of the era being teased. Episodes of the show will air on both Disney+ and Disney Junior.

The High Republic Character Encyclopedia (TBD 2023)

This character encyclopedia is sure to be filled with amazing artwork and fun tidbits about characters from all over the High Republic era. The reference book will be written by Amy Richau and Megan Crouse, with cover art by Charles Soule. There are so many great Star Wars encyclopedias and reference books out there, and this is sure to be one of them!
