Star Wars: The Acolyte Begins Production

The Star Wars Universe is expanding once again. While we’re all currently busy with Tony Gilroy’s Andor series, Disney is not slowing down. It’s been officially announced that Star Wars: The Acolyte Begins Production today. Additionally, new cast members have been revealed who will join the series leads. Leslye Headland is developing The Acolyte, which is described as a mystery-thriller. However, a key detail is the timeline placement. The series takes place in the final days of The High Republic era.

Actress Amandla Stenberg joins Lee Jung-Jae as the series leads. Well-known actors and actresses also join them to make up the cast for the next Star Wars series. Officially announced on May 4th 2020, The Acolyte is one of the most mysterious series. Not much is known about what will take place in the series. As mentioned earlier, the series takes place in a new part of the Star Wars timeline. Therefore a refreshing new look at Star Wars should hopefully be welcomed.

    New Cast, New Show

Joining the series leads is also Carrie-Anne Moss. She’s well known for her role as “Trinity” in the Matrix Series of films. However, she’s also jumping over from Marvel Television. She’ll be joined by Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Rebecca Henderson and Jodie Turner-Smith. Additionally, Dafne Keen was revealed as starring in the series earlier last week. Actor Manny Jacinto also joins the cast.

But what about the show’s setting? Many believed The Acolyte would be following the journey of Dark Side Force users. Therefore following the Sith. Given the close proximity of the series to Star Wars: Episode One: A Phantom Menace, many believed we’d see the start of Palpatine’s rise to power. However, a new synopsis for the series might paint a different picture of what many wanted to happen.

“The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-siode powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

    The High Republic Era

While Star Wars: The Acolyte Begins Production, many might be asking about the story setting. Some might not be familiar with The High Republic. However, there are two items to deal with here. One is the actual The High Republic era in the Star Wars galaxy, and the other is the reading initiative from Lucasfilm Publishing. Therefore given The Acolyte takes place around the final days, it;’s important to learn about both.

Kickstarted in 2021, Star Wars: The High Republic is an ongoing multimedia project. It features multiple types of storytelling from comics, novels and even audio plays. The goal is to tell a cohesive story set in the same era. This era is The High Republic era. Therefore it all takes place around 200 years before Star Wars Episode One. Writers include Cavan Scott, Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Daniel José Older and Justina Ireland.

The actual era in the Star Wars Universe sees the Galactic Republic at its height. Additionally, it is known as a golden age for the Jedi Order. Therefore this compares to what we see of the Jedi in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars. It’s reinforced by the Republic relying heavily on the Jedi to render air and settle disputes around the galaxy. Through peaceful methods, of course. Perhaps this relates to the episode synopsis above.
