Doctor Who Adds Slow Horses’ Kadiff Kirwan To Season 2 Cast

It seems the BBC is after all of AppleTV+’s stars. Following the announcement that Slow Horses’ Freddie Fox & Christopher Chung are joining the Doctor Who cast, actor Kadiff Kirwan will appear in the upcoming second season. Since shooting to stardom playing Aaron in the hit comedy Chewing Gum, Kirwan has gone on to star in hit series after hit series, including Black Mirror, Fleabag, I May Destroy You, This Is Going to Hurt, and most recently, Slow Horses.

Doctor Who returns on April 12th for its second season with Ncuti Gatwa. However, this time, he is joined by a new companion, Belinda Chandra, played by Star Wars Andor star Varada Sethu. With just over three weeks to go, fans of the franchise have noted that “hype” for the upcoming season seems a little quieter than usual. Hopefully, today’s announcement is the start of a fantastic lead-up to the new season of time-traveling adventures.

Kadiff Kirwan Talks Joining Doctor Who

Kadiff is set to blast off into the Whoniverse! Before being seen on-screen with Gatwa and Sethu, Kadiff can also be spotted on the big screen, with film roles ranging from 2018’s Mary Queen of Scots to 2022’s My Policeman, and on the stage in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Hot Wing King. Speaking about joining The Whoniverse, he said:

“I feel elated to be joining the rich legacy of actors who have guest-starred in Doctor Who. Russell T Davies and Juno Dawson have truly outdone themselves with this episode in what I can only describe as an intergalactic gargantuan extravaganza. It’s packed with gravity-defying mastery beyond imagination, and being a part of it is an absolute dream. Strap in Whovians, this one is gonna rock your world!”

Doctor Who Showrunner Russell T Davies, said the following regarding the casting news:

“We’re so lucky in Cardiff to open the doors to world-class talent, and it’s been a riot, getting to work with Kadiff. I’ve loved his work on TV, and stage for a long time, so when we realised he was available and happy to come on board, that was truly a great day in the office!”

Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television and will air on 12th April exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Disney+ outside of the UK (where available).
