It feels like a lifetime since we’ve heard news from AppleTV+’s Foundation. After a successful second season with Jared Harris and Lee Pace, the series had a troubled third season of filming. However, Deadline is now reporting that Ian Goldberg has joined the Foundation series as the new showrunner. Additionally, a writers room for a potential fourth season is underway at the moment. Previously, David S. Goyer served as the Showrunner of the Foundation series but departed amid Season 3 production.
The third season of Foundation still has no airdate on AppleTV+ at the moment. However, many fans of the Isaac Asimov adaptation are expecting it later in 2025. Production on the third season was paused in Spring 2023, after weeks of filming, due to the WGA Strike. Furthermore, complications arose in 2024 with the production restart due to budget issues and physical production. Filming finally resumed in March 2024, after the budget was brought down. Significant changes included Goyer stepping down, but completing his outstanding writing and directing duties for the Foundation series.

Who Is Ian Goldberg – New Foundation Showrunner?
If you’ve recently watched “Fear the Walking Dead,” then you’ve seen some of Ian Goldberg’s work. He served as an executive producer and co-showrunner on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. Deadline has also reported that Goldberg is leading a Fourth-Season writers room for Foundation. Goldberg’s work on the show falls under an overall deal he has signed with Skydance TV. Goldberg previously co-wrote a pilot script with Goyer for Syfy’s Superman origin story series Krypton.
Initially released in September 2021, “Foundation” chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilisation amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. The series is based on Isaac Asimov’s trilogy. It follows the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
In addition to Pace and Harris, Foundation stars Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Ella-Rae Smith, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, Nimrat Kaur, Ben Daniels and Dimitri Leonidas.

Foundation Seasons One and Two are currently streaming on AppleTV+. However, there has been no official confirmation on when the Third Season will air. Many expect, and hope, that it will arrive in 2025. For the latest in Sci-Fi series, movies and more, follow Nerdgazm on the social media channels below.
