The first trailer for Star Wars MAUL – Shadow Lord has arrived. Let’s be honest, Darth Maul has come quite a way since Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) sliced him in half all those years ago. While only having a limited appearance in live-action, animation has been extremely kind to the ex-Sith Lord. For example, he has appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Therefore, it makes sense that he gets his own series. That’s finally here, well, almost. Actor Sam Witwer returns once again to voice the character of Maul.
Star Wars MAUL – Shadow Lord officially airs with a two-episode premiere on April 6th, via Disney+. Prior to his final confrontation with Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels, he made attempts to rebuild himself, which is the central theme of Star Wars Maul –Shadow Lord. The new series takes place around a year after The Clone Wars. Maul was present at the end of this, in the final days during the Fall of Mandalore. This new animated series follows his efforts to reassemble the criminal empire that fell apart previously.
Shadow Lord reunites former Star Wars animation talent. The series is crafted under the direction of Dave Filoni, the newly appointed head of Lucasfilm, and features the return of Brad Rau, Matt Michonvetz, and Athena Portillo, who have all contributed as writers or directors to episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch.
